HTM 01-06: Decontamination of Flexible Endoscopes sets forward a requirement for Cleaning Efficacy Tests of the “chamber walls, load carrier and lumens” of an endoscope, in order to establish the efficacy of the cleaning stage of automated endoscope washer-disinfector cycles.
Test soil is designed to simulate the soiling that naturally occurs during theatre use. It is used as a visual indicator of the cleaning efficacy of washer disinfectors (WD) used for endoscopes, by monitoring the residual soil left after a cleaning cycle.
20/30 Labs have created a product range, called OptimEyz™, consisting of the OptimEyz™ cleaning indicator (OCI) test strips with a test soil applied.
This OCI strip is placed inside of a Process Challenge Device (PCD), which itself is connected to a surrogate device which is designed to mimic the internal channels of a flexible endoscope.
There is no published standard for cleaning efficacy indicators, however HTM 01-06 Part E: Testing Method sets forth requirements of a soil test for Endoscope Washer-Disinfectors.
